Human beings are creatures of habit. From an early age, we are conditioned to perform and act based on certain external stimuli and triggers. School starts at 8:00 AM, Lunch is at 11, Recess at noon, etc It’s pretty funny when you stop to think about a bell buzzing and thousands of people marching to the cafeteria like sheep. Most days are almost entirely pre-programmed before we even wake up. This leads to a stale, boring brain… and that leads to a stale, boring life! In order to improve upon our lives, we need to change things up! The human brain is incredibly elastic (capable of change), and its design “yearns” for new and exciting. To positively improve your brain, you need to expose it to new settings, new people, new experiences, new, new, new, NEW!

Many people stick with the usual, habitual routine because it is easy, but you’re not one of these people are you? You wouldn’t have read this far into this article if you were… This is also why “most” people never fulfill the life of their dreams, never experience even a fraction of what they could have in life. Why settle for an average, boring life. Excite and Improve your brain, and you will Excite and Improve your life! Try something new. Check out that new Ethiopian restaurant, take guitar lessons, take dancing lessons, become a certified scuba diver, run a marathon… it doesn’t matter what it is, just do it! Nike hit the nail on the head with their slogan.

If you want to be an interesting, exciting person: Do interesting and exciting things! Stop watching the nightly news, I guarantee you your life will not be negatively impacted (in fact, quite the opposite, you should start to recognize a very positive change when you don’t focus on the sensationalized negativity being run by the Press.) Brain Improvement is as simple as trying out a new cologne (scent is an incredibly powerful brain stimulant.) An hour a day less television (and that time spent learning Spanish) and you could be fully conversing with your waiter in Madrid. Life is too exciting and exhilarating to be spent (read: wasted) staring at images and garbage being flashed across our faces. I strongly believe that it is this constant barrage of garbage that is causing our generation to be “dumbed” down – no one has to Think! Thinking is fun, it’s challenging. Be Curious in your day to day life. Look at that plastic fork your are eating off of and think, this thing started off as oil deep below the earth’s surface, was refined into plastic, was assembled in a factory (probably China), shipped thousands of miles across oceans and deserts, and wound up in my hand! Everything we do is a possible source of amazement and wonderment if you really take the time to stop and think about it. Brain improvement is all a matter of desire and want. You have to want to change your life, and if you do, start by waking up an hour earlier. Spend that hour in yoga, and in deep breathing meditation, or take a brisk walk. Make a good breakfast. Stop to smell the roses.

Habits can actually be a good thing, when directed properly. Re-direct old habits into new ones! The habit of checking your Facebook every five minutes (come on! whats the point, really? Not much has changed in five minutes!) re-direct to learning a new word in Spanish. Make it a habit to be positive, think “why not?” Use positive habit forming to create serious brain improvement, and all other areas in your life will be improved as well. Make it a habit to play an hour of _______ (insert fun, challenging board game here) with your family/friends instead of watching T.V. and see how much more clearly you think, as well as how much better your relations improve!

Life is yours for the changing!
