Metacognition – “knowing about knowing” , “learning about learning”. Being Self Aware. The more you think about who you are and are present in the moment. The more capable you can become.

Life is an infinite amount of “mini-decisions.” What I mean by that is that every second of your life you are making a decision about what you are doing. Are you reading this on the screen right now? With every new word you read and follow along with me, you are deciding to stay and continue reading, or to click the ‘x’ button up top and blast this page away back into cyberspace. The more you are aware of each little decision you make (for example: me controlling my fingers to depress each keyboard key in the exact order I want to display the right pixels on the screen), the more you are able to “self-correct” along your path.

It is often said that you can’t hit a target you don’t even know exists. So define it. Set your goals and follow along the path to achieve them. Some people argue about the whether they are achievable, but that is not as important as just simply having them in the first place! A sailboat leaving Miami headed for Cozumel must at the very least know that is headed towards Cozumel. Is it possible that it could reach Cozumel without planning on it? Absolutely, but the chances are extremely slim in the first place, and secondly, once there, the sailors will not see this as an accomplishment, but rather just happenstance.

The important thing to note is that a sailboat headed to Cozumel will probably be off course at least 95% of the time as winds, waves, and various other factor toss and turn the boat into different paths. Yet, the boat still makes it there, thanks to the captain self-correcting course as necessary. This self-correcting is our analogy of being Conscious of Consciousness. Along the way, you’ll certainly head in the wrong direction at some point or another, and like the sailboat, you will probably be heading the wrong way more often than you are the right way, but what’s essential is you realize who you are, check your goals, and see where you’re headed in relation to those goals and correct your course.

Every second of every day you have is a chance to head in the right direction and achieve all that you can. This is an incredible power to have, use it wisely!
