Sounds simple, but the reality is that most people don’t do it. This is probably not only for lack of want, though, many people just feel lost or scared because they don’t know how or what to do. This is where reading comes in! In order to do new things to improve upon where you are now in life, you have to have difference in thinking.

To have a difference of thinking, you have to have a steady diet of POSITIVE information. Reading the Twilight series ain’t gonna cut it, folks! Books like How to Win Friends and Influence People is more along the right lines. Inspiration is essential to making things happen and getting motivated. Reading is a way of absorbing information that has taken many people a great deal of time and experience to assimilate in a relatively short period of time.

You can learn things that people have spent months, years, or even decades to learn in a matter of a couple of hours of reading! Having a flow of positive reinforcement in the form of books (or audio) will have an incredible impact on your overall attitude and sense of well-being. Research (and everyday life experience) has shown time and time again that mental acuity and health can be improved by keeping the mind sharp through reading. Today is a great day to turn off the nightly news and pick up a good book!

This will be an exercise in daydreaming and imagination that should provide some practical application in your everyday life. First lets talk about what the language is. By themselves, numbers are not memorable, and we can mainly attribute this to the fact that they are boring! So let’s try to make numbers fun and interesting, and by doing this, we should be able to add some color and interest to an otherwise very dull situation. The Language of Numbers can be described as taking a meaningless “place holder of value” (i.e. numbers) and giving them Life to make them interesting and memorable. This is done with through the power of association and Imagination. Remember when you’re teacher told you in class not to daydream? Well she was wrong!

We need to give an image and sensation to each number. You can use whatever helps you best, but for the purpose of this exercise, we’re going to assign some values, just so that you get the idea. Think about the actual shape of the number “zero”, it looks like a ball, right? Great, so we’ll think about a soccer ball when we need to think about the number zero. One? How about a candle? Same deal here, replace the idea of “one” with the image of a candle. Two could be a swan, three = handcuffs, four = sailboat, five = hook, six = an elephant’s trunk, seven = a boomerang, eight = a snowman, nine = a balloon attached to a string.

So, now we have all the numbers attached to an image, take a second to stop and review these numbers. Maybe draw them out and study them for a second. Now to make these useful, we have to apply these images to a story. Everyone loves and remembers stories, right? That’s just human nature. So lets take the number 8476. This could be a bank PIN number, or whatever. For our example, we will transform ’8476′ into ‘snowman, sailboat, boomerang, elephant trunk’. Use those “forbidden” powers of daydreaming of yours to convert those images into a story. The more colorful and creative you get, the more memorable your number will be! Remember to try and use all your sense, for example, feel holding the boomerang, or feel the chill of the snowman, or smell the candle and hear its crackling sound. So, for our story, it could go something like this: A snowman boards his sailboat, takes hold of the boomerang sitting there, and bounces it off the elephants trunk who happens to still be sitting at the pier. So translate that back into numbers: snowman, sailboat, boomerang, elephant trunk = 8476. That’s the power of your imagination and the working of the language of numbers! Practice this daily and it will soon come as second nature to you.

For example, as I am typing these words… I have already thought them in my head and am moving along to the next train of thought, which my fingers many times seem to prefer the “freshest” thoughts to follow along with.

Should I speed up my typing, and worry about the misspellings later? I don’t really know. What I do know is that this may lead to some pretty cool implications.

Can people use Dyslexia for good? If people are thinking so rapidly that their fingers can’t even keep up, can they accomplish more some how?

Along the same lines, is stuttering really people who are thinking faster than they can speak? Is it possible that Attention Deficit Disorder is partially caused by people who are so much more advanced than others that they have already come up with a solution and are already bored and “not paying attention” or people who are not mentally stimulated and challenged by their current environment?

Lots of Questions. I just wonder if we can’t bring some good out of these kinds of things as opposed to just more medications :/

Metacognition – “knowing about knowing” , “learning about learning”. Being Self Aware. The more you think about who you are and are present in the moment. The more capable you can become.

Life is an infinite amount of “mini-decisions.” What I mean by that is that every second of your life you are making a decision about what you are doing. Are you reading this on the screen right now? With every new word you read and follow along with me, you are deciding to stay and continue reading, or to click the ‘x’ button up top and blast this page away back into cyberspace. The more you are aware of each little decision you make (for example: me controlling my fingers to depress each keyboard key in the exact order I want to display the right pixels on the screen), the more you are able to “self-correct” along your path.

It is often said that you can’t hit a target you don’t even know exists. So define it. Set your goals and follow along the path to achieve them. Some people argue about the whether they are achievable, but that is not as important as just simply having them in the first place! A sailboat leaving Miami headed for Cozumel must at the very least know that is headed towards Cozumel. Is it possible that it could reach Cozumel without planning on it? Absolutely, but the chances are extremely slim in the first place, and secondly, once there, the sailors will not see this as an accomplishment, but rather just happenstance.

The important thing to note is that a sailboat headed to Cozumel will probably be off course at least 95% of the time as winds, waves, and various other factor toss and turn the boat into different paths. Yet, the boat still makes it there, thanks to the captain self-correcting course as necessary. This self-correcting is our analogy of being Conscious of Consciousness. Along the way, you’ll certainly head in the wrong direction at some point or another, and like the sailboat, you will probably be heading the wrong way more often than you are the right way, but what’s essential is you realize who you are, check your goals, and see where you’re headed in relation to those goals and correct your course.

Every second of every day you have is a chance to head in the right direction and achieve all that you can. This is an incredible power to have, use it wisely!

Truly happy people are those that can see the good in every situation, and are patient and calm enough to wait out the things that seem so horrible at the time, but turn out to be a blessing later on.

Stress and Negativity have shown time and time again to be incredibly toxic to our health. They tear down our immune systems, and put unnecessary burdens on our bodies.

Positivity on the other hand, does just the opposite. Smiling and laughing are incredibly good for you, make you feel good, and are just plain fun! Try to at least outweigh negative feelings with positive feelings at a ratio of 5:1. Don’t get sucked in to feeling bad. Turn off the nightly “news” and pass by that accident without looking to see the “carnage”, it does absolutely no good for you, and in fact, quite the opposite.

Music is a personal experience, wherein its definition varies from one person to another. Music is a major part of society, culture and one’s individuality.

Listening to music activates different parts of the brain, having a rush of both serotonin and dopamine, responsible for causing pleasurable feelings such as eating chocolates, having orgasms, and even taking drugs for drug addicts.

Music influences humans in both good and bad ways. Music has that ability to take you back in time, which makes it a great tool for studying and learning. Listening to music in a foreign language that you are trying to learn has double benefits!

Over the course of time, music has evolved. People’s taste in music varies and no same people can feel the exact same feeling from hearing one particular music.

Based on surveys and research, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven’s classical masterpieces are found to be relaxing, yet stimulating at the same time. Before a group of participants were asked to listen to classical music, their electroencephalograph (EEG) was taken. Afterwards, they were exposed to classical music and their EEG results revealed that there was a relaxing effect. A drop in blood pressure, pulse rate, and temperature were significantly noted, making the subjects more alert and even more concentrated all throughout their day.

Baroque music. The term baroque in art is defined as “grandiose, massive, detailed but baroque music often seems to have very little of these characteristics. A similar test was also done to another set of participants, only this time they were asked to listen to baroque. A drop in blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature was also noted. In their EEG, it was found out that the music activates their left and right hemispheres. This simultaneous left and right brain action resulted in maximization of learning and improved information retention. Studying activates the left cerebral hemisphere, while listening to music activates the right cerebral hemisphere. Study while tuned in to Bach or Mozart and you might get that ideal grade!

Music is music, while noise is something else. Noise is an audible result of aperiodic vibrations. According to information theory, anything which interferes with transmissions of messages as well as any diverting, confusing element in what they perceive. Modern music seems faster nowadays and it was found out that listening to fast, upbeat music speeds up pulse rate, breathing and increases temperature and blood pressure as well. Pupil constriction was also noted. It is true that this kind of music can jump start your day and can even motivate you to hit the gym!

Music has a lot of brain benefits.

Human beings are creatures of habit. From an early age, we are conditioned to perform and act based on certain external stimuli and triggers. School starts at 8:00 AM, Lunch is at 11, Recess at noon, etc It’s pretty funny when you stop to think about a bell buzzing and thousands of people marching to the cafeteria like sheep. Most days are almost entirely pre-programmed before we even wake up. This leads to a stale, boring brain… and that leads to a stale, boring life! In order to improve upon our lives, we need to change things up! The human brain is incredibly elastic (capable of change), and its design “yearns” for new and exciting. To positively improve your brain, you need to expose it to new settings, new people, new experiences, new, new, new, NEW! Many people stick with the usual, habitual routine because it is easy, but you’re not one of these people are you?

Many people stick with the usual, habitual routine because it is easy, but you’re not one of these people are you? You wouldn’t have read this far into this article if you were… This is also why “most” people never fulfill the life of their dreams, never experience even a fraction of what they could have in life. Why settle for an average, boring life. Excite and Improve your brain, and you will Excite and Improve your life! Try something new. Check out that new Ethiopian restaurant, take guitar lessons, take dancing lessons, become a certified scuba diver, run a marathon… it doesn’t matter what it is, just do it! Nike hit the nail on the head with their slogan.

If you want to be an interesting, exciting person: Do interesting and exciting things! Stop watching the nightly news, I guarantee you your life will not be negatively impacted (in fact, quite the opposite, you should start to recognize a very positive change when you don’t focus on the sensationalized negativity being run by the Press.) Brain Improvement is as simple as trying out a new cologne (scent is an incredibly powerful brain stimulant.) An hour a day less television (and that time spent learning Spanish) and you could be fully conversing with your waiter in Madrid. Life is too exciting and exhilarating to be spent (read: wasted) staring at images and garbage being flashed across our faces. I strongly believe that it is this constant barrage of garbage that is causing our generation to be “dumbed” down – no one has to Think! Thinking is fun, it’s challenging. Be Curious in your day to day life. Look at that plastic fork your are eating off of and think, this thing started off as oil deep below the earth’s surface, was refined into plastic, was assembled in a factory (probably China), shipped thousands of miles across oceans and deserts, and wound up in my hand! Everything we do is a possible source of amazement and wonderment if you really take the time to stop and think about it. Brain improvement is all a matter of desire and want. You have to want to change your life, and if you do, start by waking up an hour earlier. Spend that hour in yoga, and in deep breathing meditation, or take a brisk walk. Make a good breakfast. Stop to smell the roses.

Habits can actually be a good thing, when directed properly. Re-direct old habits into new ones! The habit of checking your Facebook every five minutes (come on! whats the point, really? Not much has changed in five minutes!) re-direct to learning a new word in Spanish. Make it a habit to be positive, think “why not?” Use positive habit forming to create serious brain improvement, and all other areas in your life will be improved as well. Make it a habit to play an hour of _______ (insert fun, challenging board game here) with your family/friends instead of watching T.V. and see how much more clearly you think, as well as how much better your relations improve!

Life is yours for the changing!
